Multilingual Handbook of Konica Minolta Group Charter of Corporate Behavior
In order to share the spirit of the Konica Minolta Group Charter of Corporate Behavior, which is the basis of the Conduct Guidelines, take-along handbooks were prepared in fiscal 2005, containing the text of the Charter in nine languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian). Fifty-five thousand copies of the handbook were provided to employees serving at Group companies around the world.
As a result of this effort, more employees are aware of the need to follow the Charter. Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Deutschland GmbH, and other subsidiaries outside Japan have prepared signboards showing the Charter of Corporate Behavior in their languages, and are displaying them in visible locations.
In April 2004, a Konica Minolta Compliance Manual was completed and provided to the roughly 20,000 employees of Group companies in Japan. The manual enables employees to act in accordance with the Konica Minolta Group Conduct Guidelines in all their daily activities. It gives nearly 100 examples of situations in which employees may find themselves, such as in violation of the law, and identifies various problems involved in those situations and suggests appropriate acts to take.
An updated version of the Compliance Manual was distributed in August 2008, in order to reflect changes in various laws and to include new cases. In order to raise awareness of the updated manual, monthly bulletins explaining the revised compliance content were posted on the Konica Minolta intranet.
In May 2004, the Group prepared and distributed 2,000 copies of a Chinese version of the Compliance Manual to employees in China. Since laws, regulations and commercial practices differ from country to country, or region to region, the Chinese version is not a translation of the Japanese version, but was prepared as an original version conforming to local laws and regulations. In the U.S. and Europe, on the other hand, Konica Minolta Group companies have developed the Code of Conduct, which, in place of the Compliance Manual, stipulates standards to be observed by employees.
The Konica Minolta Group companies in Japan provide their employees with various educational programs on compliance.
In fiscal 2008, thematic educational seminars were held across Japan on topics such as the Act against Delay in Payment of Subcontract Proceeds, etc. to Subcontractors (110 participants), the
Act on the Protection of Personal Information (51 participants), the Japanese competition laws (24 participants), and overseas competition laws (35 participants). Group employees could voluntarily participate in the seminars. The Group also conducted other position-based compliance education for a total of 400 individuals in different positions: new employees (new graduate), mid-level employees, new directors, new managers and mid-career employees.
There has been an ongoing educational program at Group companies to prevent workplace harassment. In fiscal 2008, this training was provided to 450 section chiefs at Konica Minolta Opto, Inc.
In North America, local staff members (company lawyers) held educational sessions on issues including competition laws, sexual harassment, and import and export regulations. In Europe, education was provided through such means as the publication of handbooks on matters including environmental directives and competition laws.
