Promoting Reform of Corporate Culture

Taking steps to raise awareness under the worldwide action slogan "simply BOLD"

Konica Minolta recognizes that its continued development as a company is dependent on the motivation and initiative of its employees. The Group has introduced the worldwide action slogan "simply BOLD" to help create a corporate culture that will encourage each employee to develop this sort of mindset.

Formulating a Worldwide Action Slogan

Konica Minolta's personnel philosophy declares the Group's commitment to valuing people who "always strive for continuous innovation, not simply adhering to successful achievements of the past or established customs." Further, in April 2008 the Group launched the worldwide action slogan, "simply BOLD," which calls for taking on challenges born of courage and daring ideas, to encourage each employee to embrace and practice the personnel philosophy. Ever since, the Group has encouraged all its employees to take innovative initiative to pursue their own future vision and goals at work under this slogan.

Konica Minolta recognizes that employee motivation and independent initiative is essential for its continued growth as a company. In fiscal 2008, the Group introduced the worldwide action slogan “simply BOLD” to help create a Group-wide culture that encourages employees to develop the necessary mindset for taking bold action.
In fiscal 2010, targets were set to expand the focus of the “simply BOLD” mindset beyond the level of the individual employee and incorporate “simply BOLD” action at the Group level. Conceived as a way of sharing information on individual activities to integrate them throughout the entire Group, Konica Minolta introduced “simply BOLD” Awards to commend employees who have implemented excellent initiatives. The award committee received 247 submissions for initiatives in Japan and 65 pre-selected submissions from companies overseas between November 2010 and February 2011. Thirty teams in Japan and eight teams overseas were selected by employee ballot to receive the simply BOLD Award.

Internal Information Sharing

Group Communication Activated Through Multiple Channels

Utilizing its Intranet

Konica Minolta has established Konica Minolta Online (Japanese) and Online Global (English) on its intranet, each of which plays a central role in intra-Group communication. These sites are designed to promote the sharing of information regarding guidelines that apply to the entire Group, as well as to communicate specific situations facing individual Group companies. They are also used to facilitate the direct exchange of information and communication between top management and employees.
The content of these sites includes "WILL," a message board for the president of Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. This board is a valuable bilateral communication tool that not only allows the president to send messages directly to all the employees of all the Group companies, but also allows employees to send their feedback about those messages directly to the president.

Utilizing Group Journal

The Konica Minolta Group publishes quarterly journals entitled KONICA MINOLTA (in Japanese) and GLOBAL magazine (in English), and distributes them to its employees around the world. These publications look at information relevant to the entire Group from a worldwide perspective, extending beyond the borders of companies, organizations, and regions. They include special articles introducing the Group's direction and innovative initiatives. Also, together with the publication of its Group journals, the Group is strengthening its bilateral communication through the use of such tools as the intranet and employee surveys.

Communication Coordinator System

Communication coordinators are assigned to each Group company around the world and serve to communicate information relevant to their departments to the Group, and Group-wide information to their departments. By essentially acting as spokespersons for their workplace and the company, these coordinators support the cultivation of a sense of group unity, the assimilation of multiple vectors, and the demonstration of synergy by promoting communication.

Employee Attitude Survey

Simultaneous global employee attitude survey

In November 2009, Konica Minolta continued its practice from the previous year by carrying out a global attitude survey of Group employees. About 19,000 people responded, more than half of all those surveyed. By sharing their thoughts on Konica Minolta's strengths and challenges, they made a valuable contribution to future improvements.
