Group Communication Activated Through Multiple Channels

Utilizing its Intranet

Konica Minolta has established Konica Minolta Online (Japanese) and Online Global (English) on its intranet, each of which plays a central role in intra-Group communication. These sites are designed to promote the sharing of information regarding guidelines that apply to the entire Group, as well as to communicate specific situations facing individual Group companies. They are also used to facilitate the direct exchange of information and communication between top management and employees.
The content of these sites includes "WILL," a message board for the president of Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. This board is a valuable bilateral communication tool that not only allows the president to send messages directly to all the employees of all the Group companies, but also allows employees to send their feedback about those messages directly to the president.

Utilizing Group Journal

The Konica Minolta Group publishes quarterly journals entitled KONICA MINOLTA (in Japanese) and GLOBAL magazine (in English), and distributes them to its employees around the world. These publications look at information relevant to the entire Group from a worldwide perspective, extending beyond the borders of companies, organizations, and regions. They include special articles on such topics as the "culture of innovative change" that Konica Minolta endeavors to promote, as well as information in the Group worldwide, including Group news and topics covering specific workplaces and staff. Also, together with the publication of its Group journals, the Group is strengthening its bilateral communication through the use of such tools as the intranet and employee surveys.

Communication Coordinator System

Communication coordinators are assigned to each Group company and serve to communicate information relevant to their departments to the Group, and Group-wide information to their departments. By essentially acting as spokespersons for their workplace and the company, these coordinators support the cultivation of a sense of group unity, the assimilation of multiple vectors, and the demonstration of synergy by promoting communication.

Employee Attitude Survey

Seeking out solutions to problems identified in survey results

Periodically since fiscal 2006, Konica Minolta has conducted employee attitude surveys aimed at improving corporate vitality at the level of the individual workplace. The results identify challenges being faced throughout the Group and challenges being faced by specific organizations. The company investigates and implements measures and policies that address these various challenges. For example, training is being conducted to help all managerial staff improve their communication skills and effectively motivate their subordinates.
In fiscal 2008, the surveys were held at 17 companies, including some of Konica Minolta's major affiliates in Japan. To improve the capabilities of the Group overall, these surveys will be continued and expanded to companies outside Japan in the future.

Labor-Management Relations

Striving for constructive communication between labor and management

The employees of the Group's eight major companies in Japan (the holding company, business companies, and common function companies) are organized into the Konica Minolta Labor Union, which had 6,359 members as of March 31, 2009. Labor-management agreements are concluded between workers and the Group's management, and representatives of both parties hold constructive discussions at management meetings.
Many of the Group's other companies also have their own labor unions or employee associations, and these have allowed the companies to build good labor-management relations.
