Versatile standalone top-port instrument with innovative easy operation
Keyboard and large LCD with wizard guidance enable easy operation for anyone without the need for a separate computer. Full range of functions for reflectance and transmittance measurements.

1. Switch power on.

2. Position sample.

3. Press MEAS.
The large color LCD is easy to read and can display data not only numerically but also on spectral graphs and color plots as well as showing PASS/FAIL judgments.

The wizard function provides on-screen guidance for users to help them make instrument settings.

To avoid confusion when several people use the same CM-5, users can store their settings on a USB memory stick, and then read these settings back into the CM-5 when they use the instrument. Target and measurement data can also be saved to the USB memory stick and taken with the user for later analysis.
White calibration (for reflectance measurements) and 100% calibration (for transmittance measurements of solids*) can be performed automatically when the instrument is switched on.
Users can also input their own index equations to enable measurement and color control based on their own company or industry calculations.
Displays can be shown in any of 8 languages: English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and now Portuguese.
The top-port design of the CM-5 makes sample positioning easy. There's no need to clamp the sample in place, and no worries about samples shifting position
Three sizes of target masks are available to adapt to different sample sizes: Ø 30mm (standard), Ø 8mm (optional), and Ø 3mm (optional)

Solid samples can be placed on top.

Small samples (optional Ø 3mm target mask)

Chunky samples (optional Petri dish)

Pastes (optional Petri dish)

Pellet samples (optional Petri dish)

Tiny amounts of costly samples (optional mini Petri dish)
Petri Dishes enable measurements of granules, powders, pastes, and opaque liquids, and the automatic calibration function of the CM-5 can be used with both the Standard and Mini Petri Dishes The new Mini Petri Dish (Ø16 mm outside diameter; Ø3 mm measurement area) enables measurements using much smaller sample amounts (approximately 1/20 of the amount required when using the Standard Petri Dish), making it ideal for costly samples such as rare-earth metals, organic EL materials, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Sliding open the CM-5 reveals a large transmittance chamber with no sides, so even large sample sheets can be inserted and measured. Transmittance samples up to 60mm thick can be measured.

Liquids can be measured using cells (optional). Cells with optical path lengths of 2mm, 10mm, and 20mm are available for measuring liquids of different densities. In addition, 10mm-wide commercial cells can also be used.
Spectral absorbance can now be measured and displayed numerically or graphically even when the CM-5 is used without being connected to a computer, enabling evaluation of spectral absorbance for checking absorbance wavelengths, evaluating colorants, calculating K/S, determining components, etc.

The CM-5 has internal calibration curves for several of the standard color indices used in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields: Gardner, Hazen/APHA, Iodine Color Number, European Pharmacopoeia, and US Pharmacopeia, so measurements based on these indices can be taken easily by anyone.
