About Color and Appearance
There are various printing methods including lithography (offset printing), copperplate printing (gravure printing) and relief printing. It is gravure printing for which color meters have been used for a long time.
In gravure printing, specific color compounds should be prepared before printing. The CM-2600d and other spectrophotometers are used for the color adjustment of the compound as well as for the management of printing colors.
Even offset printing, which required only the density measurement of CMYK in the past, now uses spectrophotometers for color management due to the increase of the use of special colors which require compounding specified colors before printing.
