Extinct already on some islands because forests have disappeared
The Visayan Hornbill was an everyday bird that could be seen on the Philippine Islands. Now, they are rare as their numbers have declined rapidly over the last few decades. Already on some islands they are thought to be extinct. One reason for this is deforestation. On some islands, less than 10% of the forests remain where the Visayan Hornbill lives.

Damages of hunting
The Visayan Hornbill is also popular as a pet. Unfortunately, they are still being poached over a broad range to be sold as pets. On some islands they were actually being hunted into extinction. Unless we stop hunting them immediately, every single wild Visayan Hornbill will be gone forever.
