Where they live

They live across many areas from the North Pacific Ocean to the Bering Sea.

What they eat

They eat fish. Walleye pollack, salmon, mackerel, and herring are their favorites. Sometimes they also eat squid and octopi.

What they are like

They are the biggest of all sea lions. Sometimes they come to shore in groups of over 1000. I'd like to see that!

Rivaling people for fish?
There are laws on catching Steller Sea Lions in most countries. However, their numbers still become smaller and smaller. The problem for Stellar Sea Lions now is that they have to rival people for fish. Steller sea lions have to eat a lot of food. Since fishing boats catch so many fish, the sea lions don't have enough.

Ocean pollution painful for Steller Sea Lions
Dirty oceans are also hurting the Steller Sea lions. Dangerous chemicals have been found in their bodies. Oil spills from tankers and paint from ships are very bad for them. It is important to check exactly what it is that endangers the Steller Sea Lion's future.
