What they eat

What they are like

California Condors spread their wings and ride the air. Do you like to fly kites? Sometimes the California Condor flies above 4000 meters!

Find out more about the California Condor!

Even about how they almost disappeared.
California Condors spread their wings wide and fly high. They are big birds, perfect for the wide American continent. Wild condors' numbers got smaller in the 1980s to only a few. As birds that eat the dead they were shot for being bad luck. They also eat the bodies of coyotes that had been poisoned, and they get poisoned too.

Let's raise condor chicks and return them to the wild!
To get the California Condor flying in the sky again, people are now breeding them. The idea is that people care for them as chicks, and then put them into the wild. Thanks to this work, there are now about 200 of California Condors in the wild. However, there are new problems for the California Condor. California Condors are often killed on power lines, because people are building cities. We can't rest easy yet.
