They love dates. Their large beaks are great for cracking nuts.
They are the largest members of the parrot family. They have a large cry and it sounds like "gyaw gyaw"; their voices ring through the forest.
Their beauty has brought them unhappiness...
As a house pet the Hyacinth Macaw is very popular. They have brilliant blue feathers, large heads and beaks. Their charm will surprise you. Since many people want them for pets, too many of the Hyacinth Macaw are taken from the rainforests In the 1980s, it is said that about ten thousand (10,000) Hyacinth Macaws were taken from the rainforests.

Let's help save the Hyacinth Macaw!
Now, the Hyacinth Macaw is banned for import/export as house pets, but people still poach them. And, many power stations and farms are built in the rainforests of the Hyacinth Macaw; they are in great danger! And so groups in Brazil are trying to help the Hyacinth Macaw by studying their lifestyles and by building nests for them.
