Konica Minolta's Social Implementation Demonstration Project for Dynamic Digital Radiography and AI-Based Digital Diagnostic Platform for Tackling Respiratory Diseases in Vietnam Selected for the METI's FY2025 Supplementary Budget Subsidy for the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project (Small-Scale Demonstration and Feasibility Studies)Contributing to Respiratory Disease Control and Advancing AI-Powered Dynamic Digital Radiography
October 6, 2026
Tokyo (October 6, 2026) – Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced that its social implementation demonstration project for Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) and an AI-based digital diagnostic platform for tackling respiratory diseases in Vietnam was selected on June 30, 2026 under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)'s FY2025 Supplementary Budget Subsidy for the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project (Small-Scale Demonstration and Feasibility Studies).
This selected project will examine the development of a digital diagnostic platform for respiratory diseases in Vietnam that utilizes simple and minimally invasive DDR and imaging AI. Through this demonstration, Konica Minolta aims to verify the effectiveness and value of introducing DDR toward social implementation and to contribute to respiratory disease control while reducing the burden on healthcare professionals.

Background
In October 2025, Konica Minolta signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam National Innovation Center and FPT Software Japan Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of FPT Corporation, a leading Vietnamese ICT company, to explore joint research on digital healthcare utilizing DDR and AI. The selected project will work on this initiative, taking it into the demonstration phase.
In Vietnam, addressing respiratory diseases, including lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is an important social issue. Medical demand continues to expand in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, but access to advanced medical devices remains limited in some regions. Expectations are rising for simple medical technology that can support early detection and improve diagnostic accuracy.
Konica Minolta's Initiative Utilizing Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR)
DDR is Konica Minolta’s proprietary X-ray imaging technology that rapidly acquires a series of sequential radiographs, enabling the motion of organs and other tissues to be visualized as dynamic images. This makes it possible to observe breathing, heartbeat, joint movement, and other physiological cycles in detail, providing more diagnostically useful information than conventional still images. Another major advantage is its ability to capture dynamic information at a radiation dose approximately equivalent to that of two standard chest radiographs (posteroanterior and lateral views). DDR is also equipped with advanced image-processing and analysis modes that enable functional evaluation beyond simple motion display. These capabilities make it possible to visualize and analyze functional information that cannot be obtained with conventional plain X-ray imaging. To maximize the value of DDR, it is crucial to refine the technology for processing and analyzing captured dynamic images by using AI.
This demonstration project will verify the value of DDR in medical institutions in Vietnam and utilize the data and knowledge gained through the demonstration to further improve AI-based analysis technology. Through these efforts, Konica Minolta will contribute to respiratory disease control in Vietnam.
