Konica Minolta Joins RE100, Looks to Run Its Business on 100% Renewable Power

Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced that it joined RE100, a global leadership initiative bringing together influential businesses committed to source 100% renewable power for their global operations, in January 2019. Konica Minolta will aim to source the electricity used in its business operations from 100% renewable power by 2050.
RE100 is led by The Climate Group, an intentional NPO focused on accelerating climate action, in partnership with CDP. It is made up of companies that are committed to procuring 100% of their electricity consumption from renewable sources. As of February 12, 2019, 162 companies worldwide have joined RE100.
The effects of climate change are expanding rapidly the world over. It is thought that by the year 2030, and even more by 2050, the world will see the arrival of societies fueled by renewable power that are not reliant on fossil fuels, which are main source of man-made CO2 emissions. Konica Minolta believes that quickly adapting to and running its business to align with the future form of energy use is a requirement of a company that can grow sustainably.
In addition to its existing long-term environmental target Eco Vison 2050 and Science Based Targets, Konica Minolta has now committed to the goal of sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable power. Konica Minolta recognizes that joining RE100 will help them reduce global CO2 emissions through the spread and expanded use of renewable power.
As a medium- to long-term policy, Konica Minolta will ramp up efforts to expand its utilization of renewable power worldwide. Beginning with production sites outside Japan, Konica Minolta will consider the optimal sourcing for each region and increasingly procure renewable power.
Additionally, as part of its initiatives to fight climate change, Konica Minolta participated in the Japan Climate Initiative as an initial member in June 2018 and declared its support for the final recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in July 2018.
