Konica Minolta Announces Canada Health Clearance for the Xpress CR Digital Mammography Upgrade

Wayne, NJ, March 4, 2009 – Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas USA announced today that Health Canada has cleared the Xpress CR Digital Mammography upgrade for sale in Canada.

By intelligently recognizing cassette types, the award-winning* Xpress CR system delivers digital imaging solutions for both general radiography & mammography application with one easy-to-use, cost-effective solution. The Xpress CR Digital Mammography upgrade provides consistent and reliable high quality images with the most advanced phosphor receptor available, Cesium Bromide (CsBr), which delivers a high level of detective quantum efficiency (DQE).

“Konica Minolta’s digital mammography solution creates new value for our users by enabling them to conduct mammography exams on the same reliable, efficient and easy-to-use Xpress CR,” says Darren Werner, Digital Radiography Product Manager at Konica Minolta. “With our Cesium Bromide mammography plate, users are assured of high-quality mammography imaging, while simultaneously achieving a lower total cost of ownership than other solutions currently available.”

At the heart of this mammography upgrade solution is Konica Minolta’s exclusive Ultra High Resolution 43.75 um pixel size. This superior resolution combined with highly advanced mammography image processing algorithms and specially designed CR Mammography cassettes and plates deliver unparalleled, consistent image quality. Technologists can focus their efforts on patient care due to the intuitive and easy to use Xpress CR imaging software and equipment environment.

Specialized image acquisition and processing tools include advanced skin line detection and chest wall masking. Image acquisition presets, or examination tags, define many image details such as scanning, resolution and output destinations. A robust CS-3 Control Station hardware platform ensures ample resources to handle the large data sets and additional image detail found in mammography images acquired on the Konica Minolta Xpress CR Mammography solution.

The Xpress CR Digital Mammography upgrade is currently going through a similar approval process with the Food and Drug Administration and is not yet for sale in the U.S.

*Konica Minolta’s Xpress CR was rated “Best in KLAS” for multi-cassette CR by the independent research organization, KLAS Enterprises LLC.
