REMOTE CLINIC ON ISLAND OFF THE COAST OF MAINE INSTALLS IMAGEPILOT CR AND IMPROVES THE DELIVERY OF PATIENT CARE

Wayne, NJ – October 1, 2008 – Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas USA announced today that Island Community Health Services (ICMC), located in the island community of Vinalhaven, 15 miles off the coast of Maine, installed the ImagePilot CR system and is achieving some remarkable results. ImagePilot is a new-generation, integrated CR system that combines CR acquisition, patient registration, image viewing and storage in one easy to use and maintain system. Using Konica Minolta’s patented AutoPilot image processing technology, the ImagePilot CR system simplifies image acquisition to one click of a mouse.

According to Russ Liebe, vice president of sales and marketing for Associated X-ray Imaging, an authorized Konica Minolta reseller, “We strongly recommended the ImagePilot because the system is so easy-to-use and also because of Konica Minolta’s well-known track record for reliability. It is truly the right product for this site, considering its remote location.”

Prior to installation of the ImagePilot, films were couriered via ferry to the Pen Bay Medical Center on the mainland, which led to a delay in patient diagnosis. Today, ICMC sends images electronically to the medical center, sometimes even while the patient is still in the X-ray room.

“Before the ImagePilot, 35 percent of our patients were transferred to the mainland for an X-ray,” says Dinah Moyer, executive director at ICMC. “In the four months operating this system, only one patient was sent to the mainland for additional testing.”

Moyer notes that volume has also increased as a result of the ImagePilot. “We’ve been able to utilize the ImagePilot CR for more patient cases because it is so easy to use and requires virtually no maintenance,” she adds. “We just position the patient on the table and in less than two minutes, we have an incredible, unbelievably high-quality image.”

Speed of diagnosis has also been a boom for ICMC’s patient as well. “I can take an X-ray and have it read by a radiologist in 15 minutes, providing a great benefit to our patients,” explains Richard Entel, M.D.

ImagePilot CR system consists of an Imaging Station and a single bay REGIUS 110 CR Reader. The Imaging Station can support additional client stations for viewing images in different parts of a physicians’ office. It can also send DICOM image for radiologists’ diagnostic interpretation. The REGIUS 110 CR reader is a high performance, single bay CR reader. It has user serviceable features such as cassette release handle and optical unit sweeper, designed to enhance the reader’s reliability and extend its lifetime.
