Konica Minolta implemented a comprehensive autonomous solution, utilizing Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to automate the movement of goods, for a leading Global Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company in Malaysia. This prominent EMS provider, renowned for its extensive portfolio of high value-added manufacturing solutions and services, including design, engineering, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of electronic assemblies and circuit boards, established a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Malaysia in 2019.
To optimize operations within this advanced facility, the company sought to automate the movement of goods on trolleys between multiple processing stations and 12 distinct production rooms. Konica Minolta’s innovative solution employed AMRs equipped with LiDAR scanners, 3D cameras, and proximity sensors to navigate dynamically without the need for fixed magnetic tracks.
Furthermore, Konica Minolta integrated 12 automated doors with a wireless communication system, enabling seamless autonomous AMR movement between rooms. The system’s flexibility is enhanced by a user-friendly, web-based interface, allowing factory personnel to easily adapt AMR operations to evolving factory floor layouts.
This robust solution has proven highly effective in streamlining intralogistics across their production floors, achieving an impressive utilization rate exceeding 90%. According to a Production Process Engineer, the system’s intuitive design simplifies complex tasks such as mapping new production areas and configuring missions.
