About the Group's business stance

Q

What is Konica Minolta Group's policy regarding profit sharing?

A

As part of its comprehensive approach in returning profit to shareholders the Group ensures it has sufficient internal reserves to handle any future business expansion, dividend payout ratio, and dealing with changes to consolidated results. This is together with adopting a medium to long term basic policy that looks to provide for a stable and continuous dividend payout. From the viewpoint of attaining a stable dividend, the Group considers a general aim to be an annual payment of 10 yen per share. From the perspective of dividend growth, however, then one of our specific targets is a dividend payout ratio that is 15% above on the consolidated basis and we look to increase the dividend yield as much as possible by determining the Group's overall performance.

Q

Can you provide further details regarding Konica Minolta Group's medium term business plan?

A

Back in May 2006 we made the decision to implement "FORWARD 08," the Group's medium term business plan for the upcoming three-year period.
The main focus of this particular medium term plan focuses on the twin areas covered by the "equipment/services business group"—concerned with areas such as multi-function peripherals (MFP), laser printers, digital printing machines, and medical equipment—together with the "component business group," which consists of sectors related to optical components and liquid crystal display-use materials. This plan aims to accelerate growth in both of these key business areas. One further aim for the plan lies in improving the Group's value-added business by looking to go beyond the conventional framework of Group-related business to pursue inter-business synergy.
In the area covered by the equipment/services business group we aim to take advantage of the company's inherent strengths as an industry-leader in polymerized toner and imaging technology. This solid background is integral to our ongoing efforts to provide products and solutions that go beyond the general office consumer to cater to specific industries and businesses in offering a tailored and targeted service. We will also continue to expand our presence in the domains of print on demand (POD) and production printing.
At the same time the Group will also look to focus on activities handled by the component business group. This will involve the company looking to further improve and consolidate its strengths in the areas of optical technology, film coating technology, and micro-fabrication technology in an attempt to improve our existing competitiveness and as part of the Group's overall aim of further expanding existing business domains.
The basis for implementing this plan lies in what is most important to the Group - promoting growth by leveraging collective Group resources, and aiming to increase value-added businesses in improving business operations.

Regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Q

What is Konica Minolta Group's approach to CSR?

A

Since the integration of both companies' management in August 2003, Konica Minolta Group has followed a management philosophy that continues to keep in mind the need to capture the trust of the Group's numerous stakeholders found all over the world. To this end, the Group has drawn up and implemented the Konica Minolta Group Charter of Corporate Behaviour, which aims for fair and transparent management and that is something shared by the Group's employees in various parts of the world.
Recently the idea of "social utility" has become an essential component in considering corporate management, since social utility, along with stakeholders' support and trust, is crucial for enhancing corporate value. To continue meeting stakeholders' expectations for many years to come, an enterprise must seek business growth. In quest of business growth, however, an enterprise must fulfil its corporate responsibility in economic, social, environment and various other areas. I truly believe that only by fulfilling our corporate social responsibility can our Group ensure sustained business growth, than thereby ultimately enhance our corporate value. In short, CSR is the essence of our management.
To ensure that our business management embodies this philosophy, and to create an ideal environment for fulfilling our CSR, in fiscal 2006 the Konica Minolta Group launched its medium term plan, incorporating a global vision of CSR as the Group's basic management policy.
The medium-term plan asserts our firm determination to fulfill CSR as an essential management policy and as a requirement for ensuring continued business growth. It is my sincere hope that all our stakeholders will understand and support our commitment to CSR activities.
