Addressing Climate Change

Introducing Renewable Energy at Company Sites

It is thought that the greatest cause of global warming is the increase in greenhouse gas emissions due to human activity since the Industrial Revolution. The key to curbing climate change and building a decarbonized society is to reduce fossil fuel dependency while maximizing the use of renewable energy that emits no greenhouse gases.

Participation in RE100, a Global Initiative Aiming for 100% Renewable Energy in Business Operations

In January 2019, Konica Minolta joined RE100, a global leadership initiative that brings together businesses committed to sourcing 100% renewable energy for their operations. Konica Minolta aims to procure 100% of the power used in its own business activities from renewable energy sources by 2050.
By doing so, Konica Minolta will accelerate its efforts to achieve Eco Vision 2050 while also helping to reduce global CO2 emissions by expanding the use of renewable energy. As a medium-term step toward achievement of its long-term goal, Konica Minolta set an internal target of sourcing electricity derived from renewable energy (hereafter referred to as “renewable electricity”) for 50% of its electricity use by 2030. The Group has started reviewing its power procurement contracts one-by-one at production sites and sales sites and is switching over sites to renewable electricity where it is possible. In fiscal 2024, the ratio of electricity derived from renewable energy* increased to 20.7%.

Expanding Use of Renewable Energy at Production and R&D Sites

Konica Minolta Business Technologies (Malaysia), the Company’s MFP production site in Malaysia, achieved 100% renewable energy in March 2023.
In Japan, Konica Minolta Mechatronics, the Company’s digital printing system production site, achieved 100% renewable energy in fiscal 2024. A photovoltaic system installed at its headquarters in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, supplies approximately 13% of its electricity consumption. Additionally, by procuring and applying tracked non-fossil fuel certificates for the electricity used at its five sites, including the headquarters factory, the Company achieved operations powered entirely by renewable energy.
As a result of these initiatives, all of the Konica Minolta Group’s production sites for MFPs and digital printing systems (excluding toner production sites) are now powered entirely by renewable energy.

Expanding Use of Renewable Energy at Sales Sites

In addition to its production and R&D sites, Konica Minolta is proactively introducing renewable energy at its numerous sales sites around the world. Konica Minolta will continue to meet the expectations of customers and society for renewable energy.

Renewable Energy Initiatives

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. built a photovoltaic installation in a parking lot in 2013 to generate electricity to power its offices. In December 2020, the company switched its remaining purchased electricity to power derived from renewable energy and now uses 100% renewable energy.
In Europe, sales companies in eleven European countries including Germany, France, the UK, Spain, and Portugal had switched to renewable energy by fiscal 2023.
Going forward, Konica Minolta will continue to accelerate the switch to renewable energy.

Building a Long-Term Procurement Scheme for Environmental Value through a Virtual PPA

In February 2025, Konica Minolta entered into a virtual PPA agreement with Tokyu Land Corporation and Riene Co., Ltd. In this PPA, Riene, acting as an aggregator, extracts environmental value (non-FIT non-fossil certificates) from the electricity generated at the Riene Logiport Nagoya Solar Power Plant, which was developed and is owned by Tokyu Land Corporation. Konica Minolta will then purchase this environmental value from Tokyu Land Corporation at a fixed price for 20 years. The power plant has been in operation since April 2025.
This is Konica Minolta’s first introduction of a virtual PPA. The environmental value from this PPA is expected to be applied to the electricity consumption of domestic sites that Konica Minolta operates and manages.
