Governance
Organizational Governance of Nature-related Risks and Opportunities
At Konica Minolta, the President and CEO holds ultimate responsibility and authority for all environmental management, including responses to natural capital issues, and ensures its effectiveness. Appointed by the President and CEO, the Group Environmental Officer promotes its management, develops the Medium-term Environmental Plan, and periodically reports the plan’s progress to the Executive Committee and other relevant meetings, as well as the Audit Committee, where it is discussed as a management issue. Decisions regarding the establishment or revision of key targets are made with the approval of the Board of Directors. Specifically, the Board approved the establishment and revision of key targets in 2008, 2020, and 2023.
| Date | Items Approved by the Board of Directors |
|---|---|
| 2008 | Long-term Environmental Targets (Eco Vision 2050): “Work to restore and conserve biodiversity” |
| 2020 | Five Materialities (including “Effective Use of Limited Resources”) |
| 2023 | “Reduce the use of global resources in our products by 90% or more by 2050 toward achieving zero use of global resources” and “Expand its contribution to reducing the use of global resources in products other than our own” |
Additionally, the Konica Minolta Group considers the impacts of stakeholders that must be taken into account when assessing and managing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities, in line with its Human Rights Policy and human rights due diligence.

Strategy
Impact of Nature-Related Risks and Opportunities on the Organization’s Business, Strategy, and Finances
Konica Minolta has set quantitative targets for 2050 in its long-term vision for "Effective Use of Limited Resources," one of its material issues. Toward achieving zero use of global resources,* the Company will reduce the use of global resources in its own products by 90% or more and expand its contribution to reducing the use of global resources in products other than its own. The Company aims to transform its business model to one that does not depend on depletable global resources for the materials used in its products and services, thereby enhancing corporate value through its business activities. Konica Minolta believes that these initiatives will benefit the Group’s performance by stabilizing procurement costs and maintaining or improving product competitiveness.
In creating its medium-term action plan, Konica Minolta references the TNFD recommendations announced in 2023 to evaluate the dependency on and impact on natural resources and biodiversity in its business. The Company extracts issues from the perspective of the nine global core indicators proposed by the TNFD and assesses the dependency on and impact on nature in its business activities to identify risks and opportunities.
*Natural resources: Resources that require new extraction, such as crude oil and mineral resources and are generally synonymous with depletable resources.

Implementation and Results of Natural Scenario Analysis
Looking ahead to 2030, Konica Minolta has identified business risks that could affect its performance by 2030, as well as business opportunities that could be created by taking proactive measures to address these challenges. The Company has identified the relevant segments, categories, timeframes, and responses for potential risk manifestations or opportunities under two scenarios: one where nature is protected and restored through strengthened policies, and another where nature continues to deteriorate under current trends. These responses have been established with the mitigation hierarchy approach in mind.
Scenario analysis is conducted using the following process:
- (1)identifying the business areas subject to nature-related scenario analysis;
- (2)identifying significant nature-related risks and opportunities;
- (3)examining nature-related scenarios;
- (4)considering policies and strategies for future responses.
In conducting the analysis, Konica Minolta identifies, assesses, and prioritizes risks and opportunities by taking into account nature-related dependencies and impacts not only in its direct operations but also throughout its upstream and downstream value chain.
When nature is protected and restored through stronger policies
| Impact on Konica Minolta | Drivers of nature change | Target segment | Classification | Timeline | Handling | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Increase in procurement and manufacturing costs | Demand for use of recycled plastic resources in products due to measures promoting a circular economy, etc. | Impact | Industry Business / Digital Workplace Business / Professional Print Business | Policy / Technology | Short to medium term | Minimization: Complying with new standard requirements for environmental labels and product regulations, meeting customer procurement requirements, and actively expanding the use of recycled plastics through materials technology |
| Increase in product development costs | Mandatory recycling of end-of-life products | Impact | Digital Workplace Business | Policy | Medium term | Minimization: / Establishing product remanufacturing and reuse systems / product collection supply chains |
| Increase in manufacturing and product costs | Business impacts due to tighter chemical substance regulations and soil pollution prevention measures | Impact | Industry Business / Digital Workplace Business / Professional Print Business | Policy | Short to medium term | Minimization: Early detection of regulatory trends with proactive product development, and planned soil remediation |
| Increase in procurement costs | Insufficient adaptation for the circular use of rare earths and other depletable resources | Dependence | Digital Workplace Business / Professional Print Business | Market | Medium term | Minimization: Active utilization of circular resources, and promotion of circular reuse of own products |
| Decrease in sales due to changes in demand for products and services | Conservation regulations and declining paper demand due to the depletion of forest resources | Dependence | Digital Workplace Business / Professional Print Business | Policy / Market | Short to medium term | [Avoidance] Convert business to a revenue model that does not depend on print charges. |

Risk and Impact Management
Process Used to Identify, Assess, and Manage Nature-Related Risks and Impacts
Konica Minolta has positioned environmental risks, including resources and biodiversity, as one of the Group’s key management risks, and its Risk Management Committee manages them. For businesses that depend on specific natural resources, the Company assesses and identifies production and procurement risks in its medium-term business plan and addresses them accordingly. The [Strategy] section outlines the process of identifying, assessing, and prioritizing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities.
Indicators and Targets
Indicators and Targets Used to Assess and Manage Nature-Related Risks and Opportunities
In its long-term vision, Konica Minolta has set targets to "reduce the use of global resources in our own products by 90% or more by 2050 as we work to achieve zero use of global resources," "expand our contribution to reducing the use of global resources in products other than our own," and "work to restore and conserve biodiversity." As milestones for achieving these long-term targets, management indicators have been established in the Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2025, which is linked to the Medium-Term Business Plan (2023-2025). The target was set to reduce global resource use in the Company’s own products by 20% compared to fiscal 2019 by the end of fiscal 2025. Additionally, the Company aimed to create a 400,000-ton reduction contribution in global resource use for customers and society in products other than its own. In fiscal 2025, both of these targets were successfully achieved. In the new medium-term plan starting from fiscal 2026, the Company will continue to set targets for reducing global resource use in its own products and expanding its contribution to resource reduction for customers and society, thereby driving efforts to reduce dependence on natural capital and maximize its positive contributions.
Additionally, for environmental compliance with laws, regulations, and ordinances in each country and region, Konica Minolta has set management indicators for wastewater volume, waste, and non-GHG air pollutants, and regularly monitors them.
