Basic Concept

Overview of Environmental Policy and Environmental Strategy

Konica Minolta set a Long-Term Environmental Vision early on and has been working toward its defined ideal state for 2050. Over the medium term, the Company has established "Addressing Climate Change" and "Using Limited Resources Effectively" as material issues representing what the Company aims to achieve by 2030. By placing corporate growth and the resolution of environmental challenges at the core of management, Konica Minolta actively promotes environmental management.

Konica Minolta’s Environmental Strategy

Konica Minolta defines its behavioral principles regarding the environment in the "Konica Minolta Group Charter of Corporate Behavior," and has established an Environmental Policy that puts these principles into concrete terms. In accordance with these guidelines, Konica Minolta operates on the fundamental concept of "growing businesses and creating new businesses by solving environmental challenges." By pursuing company growth while contributing to the resolution of global environmental issues—including climate change—the Company aims to be an enterprise essential to society.

Climate Change

Strategy

As its Long-Term Environmental Vision, Konica Minolta aims to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions across the product lifecycle (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) by 2050, reducing environmental impact within its sphere of responsibility. At the same time, the Company works to generate and expand "avoided CO2 emissions" that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions for customers and society through Konica Minolta products and services. In FY2025, avoided CO2 emissions surpassed its product lifecycle CO2 emissions. Toward 2050, by expanding products that accelerate solutions to customer challenges, the Company aims to generate avoided CO2 emissions across society that exceed its cumulative CO2 emissions since Konica Minolta was formed through the management integration.

In the base year of FY2018, Scopes 1 and 2 accounted for 330 thousand tons and Scope 3 for 1,128 thousand tons. Against the base year, the FY2025 target was -20% and the result -32%, followed by targets of -33% for FY2028, -36% for FY2030 and -50% for FY2035, aiming for net zero in FY2050.

The FY2022 result was 593 thousand tons and the FY2025 result of 1,118 thousand tons exceeded the FY2025 target of 800 thousand tons. Targets rise to 1,200 thousand tons for FY2028, 1,240 thousand tons for FY2030 and 1,500 thousand tons for FY2035.

Effective Use of Resources

Strategy

Under its Long-Term Environmental Vision of "Working toward zero use of the natural resources* by 2050," Konica Minolta is minimizing input resources and shifting to circular resources to advance the transition of its own business to a circular economy. Additionally, to drive the transition toward resource circulation and a circular economy across society as a whole, Konica Minolta will expand avoided natural resource usage through its products and services among customers and across society.

*Natural resources: Resources requiring new extraction, such as petroleum and mineral resources; generally synonymous with depletable resources.

Stacked bar graph showing the trend in and reduction targets for the use of natural resources (virgin materials) in Konica Minolta products. Use falls from 135 thousand tons in the base year of 2019 to a 2025 target of 108 thousand tons and a 2025 result of 91 thousand tons (-33% against 2019), with targets of 97 thousand tons for 2028 (-28%) and 95 thousand tons for 2030 (-30%), aiming for a reduction of 90% or more by 2050. Virgin materials are also being replaced with circular resources such as recycled and biomass materials.
