Initiatives
Global Environmental Issues
Konica Minolta focuses on preventing global warming, promoting resource circulation, and conserving biodiversity. In addition to leveraging the environmental technologies and expertise it has cultivated through its business activities, the Group works to address environmental issues through a wide range of initiatives, including supporting charitable programs and participating in environmental conservation activities.
Konica Minolta's Environmental Strategy and Social Contribution (Japan)
Protecting the global environment is a challenge facing all humankind. Konica Minolta promotes environmental conservation by making charitable donations and encouraging the volunteer activities of its employees. Konica Minolta also shares its environmental management expertise with stakeholders, including customers and business partners. The company aims to expand the environmental efforts of its stakeholders in order to accelerate their efforts to reduce environmental impact.
Konica Minolta shares its environmental management expertise via seminars and lectures, not only for companies but also for local governments and academia.
To help clients and other companies reduce their environmental impact, Konica Minolta engages in Green Marketing activities. This involves sharing Konica Minolta’s know-how and tools with them that are useful for improving environmental management. These activities have helped strengthen the relationship with these companies and create business opportunities, which has then led to product and service transactions. In addition, Konica Minolta engages in Carbon Neutral Partner activities to help business partners reduce their environmental impact and costs.
Going beyond addressing its own environmental impact, Konica Minolta is working to reduce the impact of society as a whole. It does this by assisting various stakeholders, such as customers, business partners, and local communities, to reduce their own environmental footprint.
Beekeeping with the Aim of Biodiversity (France)
Konica Minolta Business Solutions France S.A.S. has greened the roof of its building in Paris and set up beehives for beekeeping. France has a tradition of valuing honeybees, and there is broad acceptance of beekeeping even in densely populated urban areas.
The honeybees raised in these beehives help pollinate various plants in the surrounding area, including fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers.
Moreover, the harvested honey is bottled and sold to employees, with the proceeds donated to a charity fund established by Konica Minolta Business Solutions France. The fund promotes cultural, artistic, and sporting activities for people with disabilities throughout the year. Through this initiative, the company is raising employees’ awareness of the preservation of biodiversity while also contributing to the community.
Supporting Environmental Conservation Activities (Australia)
Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia Pty. Ltd. has supported local environmental conservation volunteer organizations for many years, assisting their activities through employee participation and donations. Each year, up to 50 employees use volunteer leave to participate in on-site activities organized by Landcare Australia, a nonprofit organization that supports approximately 6,000 local environmental conservation groups, including Landcare, Coastcare, and Bushcare groups.
The company has also introduced a workplace giving program under which it matches employee donations. Through grant programs, it continues to provide funding for initiatives including Indigenous language programs, drought response, and ecosystem restoration following bushfires.
Supporting Forest Conservation Activities (Japan)
Konica Minolta participates in and supports a variety of forest conservation activities. One such initiative was its support for the Takao Forest Society.
Focusing on the natural vegetation in the national forest located in Uratakao, in the western part of Tokyo, the Society aims to restore a rich forest where coniferous and broad-leaved trees coexist through activities such as thinning, tree planting, and clearing undergrowth. Konica Minolta was a corporate member of the Society, and its employees participated in the Society’s forest conservation activities each month. Konica Minolta also produced and provided the Society’s quarterly newsletter using its digital printing system.
Konica Minolta also sends employee volunteers to participate in environmental conservation activities, conducts cleanups around its sites, and supports environmental organizations at locations around the world.
Partnership with the French National Forests Office (ONF)
Konica Minolta Business Solutions France S.A.S. is committed to supporting the French National Forests Office (ONF), a highly credible public institution dedicated to the protection and preservation of France’s forests. ONF also has Europe’s largest network of biodiversity experts and is recognized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the quality of its forest management at the local level.
This partnership is implemented through a nationwide program that is renewed annually.
Well-being and Local Communities
Konica Minolta focuses on helping people lead healthy and secure lives and contributing to the development of local communities. In addition to leveraging the medical and digital technologies and expertise it has cultivated through its business activities, the Group contributes to solving social issues through a wide range of initiatives, including supporting patient advocacy organizations and participating in local community activities.
Support for Early Detection and Treatment of Jaundice (Kernicterus) in Newborns
Pathological jaundice (kernicterus) can cause brain abnormalities and cerebral palsy if the concentration of bilirubin, the substance that causes jaundice, exceeds a certain level in a newborn shortly after birth. In the past, it was one of the three leading causes of cerebral palsy in Japan, but its incidence has significantly decreased thanks to early detection and treatment systems using devices such as transcutaneous jaundice meters. However, due to a lack of expertise and resources, some regions around the world still lack effective early detection systems and cannot properly manage jaundice.
Cooperation in the Kernicterus Eradication Project to Reduce Neonatal Mortality (Myanmar)
From 2017 to 2019, Konica Minolta participated in the Kernicterus Eradication Project in Myanmar, which was conducted by the National Center for Global Health and Medicine under a program commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to promote the international deployment of medical technologies and other healthcare services. Konica Minolta supported the project by lending and maintaining the necessary measurement equipment and analyzing data. In 1980, Konica Minolta developed the world’s first transcutaneous jaundice meter, which helped eradicate kernicterus in Japan. Using this project as a model, the Company will continue to contribute to the spread of jaundice management in Asia.
Providing Bilirubinometers for the UCSF Newborn Telemedicine Program (U.S.)
In 2020, as part of the UCSF Newborn Telemedicine Program, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals in the U.S. conducted a clinical trial of at-home jaundice monitoring by parents for newborns at high risk of jaundice complications during their first week of life, collecting and analyzing data toward practical implementation. Konica Minolta supported the trial by providing 12 jaundice meters for use in the study.
Initiatives to Promote Early Detection of Breast Cancer
Konica Minolta, Inc. provides breast composition analysis software and breast ultrasound diagnostic systems that support the early detection of breast cancer. In connection with this business, the Company supports the Pink Ribbon campaign, which promotes awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection.
Supporting Cancer Advocacy Organizations
Konica Minolta supports organizations that assist breast cancer patients and their families in various regions.
In Australia, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia Pty. Ltd. supports the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
In the UK, since launching our partnership with Cancer Research UK in 2025, Konica Minolta in the UK has created opportunities for employees, customers and partners to make a positive social contribution through fundraising, volunteering and awareness initiatives. The partnership supports stronger community engagement while contributing to life-saving cancer research.

Together, these efforts are helping to create meaningful social impact, foster employee engagement and contribute to Cancer Research UK’s vital work.
Social Contribution through Local Sports (Japan)
Konica Minolta regularly holds jogging classes to share with local communities the joy of running and the running expertise cultivated over many years by the Konica Minolta Track and Field Club.
The classes welcome people of a wide range of ages and abilities, primarily elementary school students but also everyone from beginners to serious runners. Through interaction with the Club’s athletes and staff, the classes provide participants with opportunities to experience the joy of running and the appeal of sports.
Konica Minolta will continue to contribute to the promotion of sports while valuing its ties with local communities.
Provision of “Spring of Relief” Water Resources as Disaster Preparedness (Japan)
In FY2014, Konica Minolta, Inc. signed a Disaster Cooperation Agreement with the city of Hino in Tokyo and the Hino Municipal Hospital. Under the agreement, the company installed a private electric generator at the well it owns at Tokyo Site Hino so that the well can be operated even during a power outage. The well can supply the large amounts of water needed during a disaster for dialysis and treatment at medical facilities as well as drinking and everyday water for community residents. The well was thus equipped and designated as the “Spring of Relief” disaster preparedness water resource. In FY2021, the Company expanded the area of coverage to include Hachioji City, Tokyo, and it continues contributing to the safety and security of the community by cooperating with medical institutions and waterworks departments.
Establishment of a Corporate Foundation to Assist People with Disabilities (France)
Konica Minolta’s MFPs incorporate the principles of universal design to make them easy to use for everyone, regardless of disability.
Extending this concept further, Konica Minolta Business Solutions France S.A.S., a sales company for office equipment, established a corporate foundation aimed at creating an environment in which people with disabilities can more easily participate in sports, entertainment, culture, education, and work, including by improving accessibility in public spaces. The initiative began with a proposal from employees and has since expanded throughout the company, with individual employees participating through donations and other means.
Working with nonprofit organizations, cultural facilities, and organizations that run cultural events, the Foundation provides funding for a wide range of projects, from local initiatives to nationwide programs.
For example, at the Quai Branly Museum in Paris, the Foundation supported the creation of 3D models to help people with visual impairments understand the museum’s layout. It also supported projects by the French National Forests Office to create a wheelchair-accessible path in the Chamonix Valley and facilities enabling wheelchair users to enjoy swimming at beaches along the Atlantic coast.
Other activities include maintaining and renovating leisure facilities, donating parasports equipment for people with disabilities, improving access to leisure boats, purchasing and training assistance dogs, and donating learning equipment for children with autism.
Developing the Next Generation of Talent
Konica Minolta focuses on developing the talent who will lead the next generation and creating opportunities for learning. In addition to leveraging the technologies and expertise it has cultivated through its business activities, the Group contributes to expanding opportunities for the next generation through a wide range of initiatives, including support for education, promotion of science and technology, and assistance with career development.
Konica Minolta Science and Technology Foundation (Japan)
The Konica Minolta Science and Technology Foundation grew out of the Tachibana Hozenkai Foundation, which was established in 1966 through the last will and testament of the late Sennosuke Sugiura, one of the founders of Konica Corporation, the predecessor of Konica Minolta, Inc. Tachibana Hozenkai's purpose was to contribute to the advancement of science and culture by providing support for research in the field of photographic science.
The Konica Minolta Science and Technology Foundation took over the activities of Tachibana Hozenkai in 1993 and was later established as a public interest incorporated foundation. Today, it provides assistance and support for research in science and technology, particularly in the fields of light and imaging, with the aim of promoting science and technology, advancing academic research, and contributing to cultural enrichment.
Konica Minolta supports this mission and helps the Foundation fulfill it through donations and other financial support to continue and expand its activities.
Community Contribution through Planetariums (Japan)
Experiential learning at planetariums not only enables children to intuitively understand the movements of celestial bodies but also provides valuable opportunities to foster the joy of learning and a spirit of inquiry. Konica Minolta offers educational planetarium programs at its directly operated planetarium facilities, providing local elementary school students with opportunities to learn about the movements of the moon and stars and how constellations work.
